Safety

There are many potentially dangerous substances and tools in the lab. Be smart and careful around yourself and your fellow lab mates. Demonstrations throughout the course will illustrate the safe and proper use of all equipment, spaces, and materials related to each process. You will complete a safety tour that will introduce you to safe practices in the Printmaking area lab. Please refer to the Printshop Handbook and SDS information located near the yellow flammable cabinet. Every precaution is taken to ensure a safe working environment. If you are unfamiliar with equipment or chemicals, please ask for assistance. Instructors and lab monitors are available at various times.

  • All persons using this lab are responsible for its upkeep. Each class will participate in regular clean-ups to be determined by the instructor. Anyone who mistreats or steals equipment, or who fails to clean up after themselves will be dealt with accordingly. Charges for damaged equipment will be placed on your student account if necessary.
  • This is a shared space by many students and instructors. Make sure all of your materials are properly put away and all space, inks, tools, equipment, etc. are properly cleaned. Respect others and their property. If it does not belong to you, ask before using.
  • The lab is not a place to hang out with your friends. While we are a welcoming community, but the physical spaces in the studios are precious, and the mental space afforded in these rooms should also be precious. Strangers to the program often interrupt this, even if they do not mean to.
  • There is no food or drink allowed in the lab at any time unless otherwise stated. This ensures that equipment, materials, and you are safe from damage.
  • There is no cell phone use at any time in the lab. Headphones and/or laptops may not be used during class.
